KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads up to Grand Valley State for the annual Big Meet on Friday and Saturday at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
The Big Meet brings in track and field programs from all over the country in and all divisions to make it one of the biggest meets in the Midwest. The weekends' events are the final chance for the Broncos to raise their marks before the Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships on Feb. 28-29.
In the running events the Broncos will have Brittney Hall, Rebecca McNamee, Paisley Sipes and Olivia VandePol competing in one of seven sections of the 5,000-meter run spread throughout the day. After turning in personal-best performances the last time out, Tauja Foreman and Taylor Rucker will run again in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles and later on in the 200-meter dash. The trio of Alex Bryant, Erin Dowd and Jasmine McLemore are set to compete in the 400-meter dash. Dowd is currently ranked second on the MAC's performance list in the event. Freshman Annalise James will run solo for the Broncos in the mile run, while seniors Haley Ritsema and Juliane Sormain compete in the 800-meter run. The Broncos will also field a 4x400 squad of Bryant, McLemore, Sormain and Dowd.
Senior Erica Sheahan will look to improve her standings on the MAC performance list in the long jump. Sheahan currently sits eighth in the event with a season-best distance of 18-8 (5.69m) that she set at the YSU Invitational. Junior Tiere Richardson competes in the triple jump, while senior Erika DePierre rounds out the jumps in the high jumps.
Juniors Aniya Davis and Taylor Eaton will represent the Broncos in the weight throw, while junior Emily Meier competes in the shot put invitational and Madison Ochs will throw in the open shot put finals.
The Broncos will also compete in Saturday's Big Meet at GVSU.
