• Western Michigan kicks off it's 115th season with a cross divisional showdown on the road at Akron.
• Wednesday's game will be just the second time the Broncos have opened MAC play against Akron. The first came back in 1987, a 24-19 win at Waldo Stadium.Ā 
• This is the 20th meeting between the Broncos and the Zips and the first since 2017.Ā 
• Western Michigan leads the all-time series 14-5, with a 6-2 lead in Akron.Ā 
• This will be the second game ever for the Broncos in UA's InfoCision Stadium, WMU is 1-0 in the stadium, defeating the Zips 41-0 back in 2016.Ā 
• The last time WMU opened the season against a MAC opponent was in 1998, a 37-23 home win.Ā 
• The Broncos were picked to finish second in the MAC West in the MAC Coaches' Poll and fourth in the West in the MAC Media Poll.Ā
