KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach
Clayton Bates announced its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2020-21 season on Friday.
The Broncos will play six non-conference games highlighted by road games at Butler (Nov. 25), Notre Dame (Dec. 2) and Michigan State (Dec. 6). WMU will also travel to take on Trine University on Nov. 28. Western Michigan's final two non-conference games will be played inside University Arena as the Broncos play host Milwaukee on Dec. 12 and Detroit Mercy on Dec. 13.
Western Michigan begins the season on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Butler inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on FS1. The Bulldogs finished last season with an overall record of 22-9 and ranked No.23 in the final AP Top 25 poll.
Following its trip to Butler the Broncos hit the road to take on Trine University on Saturday, Nov. 28. It will be the first time in school history WMU will travel to play a Division III school. Last season Trine was 16-12 and advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game.
For the second year in a row the Broncos head to East Lansing for a match-up with No.13 Michigan State on Sunday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the Breslin Center. It's just the second time since 1998 the Broncos and Spartans have met.
WMU's final two non-conference games take place inside University Arena. In its 2020-21 home opener the Brown & Gold square off with Milwaukee on Saturday, Dec. 12. WMU has won seven of the last eight match-ups against Milwaukee including a 115-100 triple overtime decision last season.
Wrapping up non-conference play the Broncos host in-state foe Detroit Mercy on Sunday, Dec. 13. It will be the 56th meeting all-time between WMU and Detroit Mercy with the Broncos winning the last two contests.
All dates are subject to change with game times and broadcast information yet to be determined. During non-conference play, additional games may be announced at a later date.
