Volleyball Inks Two in Early Signing Period

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  The Western Michigan volleyball team and head coach Colleen Munson announced the signing of two National Letters of Intent during the early signing period on Wednesday.

The Broncos will add middle blocker Kennedy Hogan (Holly, Mich.) and outside hitter Julia Marr (Cincinnati, Ohio) to the 2021-22 recruiting class.

Julia Marr • 6-2 • Outside Hitter • Cincinnati, Ohio • Seton High School
For her career Marr has recorded 1,134 kills, 499 digs and 62 blocks. Marr recorded her 1,000th kill during the 2020 season and to this date has a career-best 364 kills during her senior season. Marr earned Third Team Under Armour All-American honors while being named to the AVCA Region 5 All-Region Team. Marr guided Seton High School to a 19-2 overall record and was named District 16 - Division I and Girls Greater Catholic Conference (GGCL) and OHSVCA District – 16 Division I Player of the Year.

Marr was also named GGCL First Team All-Conference and Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association (OHSVCA) All-Ohio Division 1 Third Team. Mar also was selected to play in the District 16 All-Star match. During her senior campaign, Prep Volleyball named Marr as one of the top 150 volleyball players in the Class of 2021.

Last season Marr was named Division I All-Ohio Third Team with 319 kills and 171 digs. Marr also earned District 16 – Division I and GGCL First Team All-Conference honors.

On choosing Western Michigan:
"I chose WMU because it is a strong academic institution and the size school I wanted to attend. It is a large University, yet not too big. It is gives me the chance to go away to school, but not too far away from my family. The volleyball program has a strong tradition of doing well in the MAC. The transfer rate for players is low and graduation rate is high. The coaching staff has been with the program for a long time and proven they can win. When I interacted with the players, they were positive and said great things about the coaches and staff as well as the school."

Kennedy Hogan • 6-2 • Middle Blocker • Holly, Mich. • Holly High School
Hogan is a two-time captain and two-time First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection at Holly High School. In her senior campaign, Hogan was named to the Under Armour All-American Watch List and this season set the school career record for blocks.

During her junior campaign, Hogan earned First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors while being an All-State nomination. The 6-2 middle blocker was also named Player of the Year by the Tri-County Times.

As a freshman Hogan earned Second Team All-Conference honors while also receiving the team's Most Improved and Sportsmanship Award.

On choosing Western Michigan:
"I chose Western Michigan because the team had a tight knit, family feel. A lot of my family members have gone to WMU and loved everything about their experience. Both the academic advisors and coaching staff were so helpful through the recruiting process and I felt like part of the team already. I'm so excited to begin my journey as a Bronco student-athlete."
