YPSILANTI, Mich. – Western Michigan track and field's Erin Dowd and Erica Sheahan both picked up event titles as the Broncos wrapped up competition at the Can Am International at Eastern Michigan University's Bowen Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Dowd continued her strong start to her senior season. Last weekend she won the 400-meter dash at the Youngstown State Invitational. She continued her winning ways at EMU, this time in the 600-meter run. The Brighton, Mich., native ran a time of 1:32.66 seconds to pick up her second win of the season. Sophomore Kiley Ward also competed in the event, placing sixth overall after a time of 1:39.91.
Sheahan picked up her first win of the season in the long jump. The senior reached a distance of 18-5.25 (5.62 meters), finishing just ahead of Eastern Michigan's Nina Ward. Sheahan also went on to finish eighth in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.76 seconds. Junior Tiere Richardson took eight overall in the triple jump after reaching a distance of 35-2.50 (10.73m).
WMU's Aniya Davis and Taylor Eaton both finished in the top eight in the weight throw. Davis finished sixth overall with a distance of 54-10 (16.71m), while Eaton finished in eighth with a distance of 53-3 (16.23m). The Broncos placed one in the top eight of the shot put, with junior transfer Emily Meier taking sixth overall. It was Meier's first meet for WMU since transferring from Tennessee. She threw a distance of 41-7.52 (12.59m).
Sophomore Taylor Rucker ran a time of 25.64 seconds and took fourth overall in the 200-meter dash. Junior Tauja Foreman took eight overall in the event after being timed at 25.97. Senior Jasmine McLemore too seventh overall in the 400-meter dash to wrap up the springs. McLemore turned in a time of 59.09 seconds.
Senior Juliane Sormain led the way for the Broncos in the mile run, finishing eighth overall with a time of 5:06.31. Freshman Annalise James finished with a time of 5:10.05, taking 11th.
WMU's 4x400-meter relay team picked up its second win of the season, running a season-best time of 3:51.43 to wrap up the meet.
Western Michigan is off next weekend before heading to the Akron Invitational, Feb. 6-8.
