KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads across the state to Eastern Michigan University for the Can Am International at Bowen Field House on Saturday.

The Broncos will be competing against the host Eagles, along with Bowling Green Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Oakland, Xavier and five Canadian programs in McMaster, Toronto, Waterloo, Western Ontario and Windsor. Live results are available here.

"This is an opportunity to compete well and be surrounded by good competition," said head coach Makiba Batten. "I'm excited to see what our team does. We're going to be on a 200-meter flat track so it will be just like running at home."

WMU is coming off its first official meet of the season, competing at the Youngstown State Invitational last Friday. The biggest performance by a Bronco was by senior Erin Dowd. Dowd won the 400-meter dash after running the 17th-fastest time in the nation at 54.74 seconds. Dowd went on to win Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the first indoor weekly accolades for the Broncos since the 2016 season.

"I thought that we are off to a better start than I thought we would be," added Batten. "We've had some bigger marks and some faster times when comparing right now in this point last season."

Western Michigan has a week off before heading to the site of the 2020 Indoor MAC Championships for the Akron Invitational, Feb. 6-8.
