KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's tennis head coach
Ryan Tomlinson has announced the hiring of
Jimmy Beckwith to the position of assistant coach.Â
Beckwith, a native of Battle Creek, Mich., spent last season with the Broncos as a volunteer assistant coach, helping WMU achieve overall and conference winning records.
"Jimmy did a great job as the volunteer assistant last season," said Tomlinson. "His knowledge and passion for developing players will be beneficial with such a young team. He is a Bronco through and through and that means a lot to me and the program."
Prior to joining Western Michigan on the coaching side, Beckwith was a student-athlete for the Bronco men's tennis team for four seasons, graduating with a finance degree in 2016. He received Academic All-MAC honors twice in his career, for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
As a freshman, Beckwith went on a six-match winning streak with his doubles partner Aaron Wong, finishing the season with the third-best doubles record on the team. During his sophomore season, he was voted by his teammates as the Most Improved Player after recording a 4-1 mark at the No. 3 singles slot.
Beckwith led the Broncos in doubles during his junior season, posting a 24-12 record in the discipline. He also won 18 singles matches that year, collecting a career-high 42 total victories. As a senior, Beckwith took part in the 2016 NCAA Tournament with his partner Jefta Kecic, competing against No. 15 Illinois in doubles.
