KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team enters the 2019-20 season ranked 14th in the US College Hockey Online's annual preseason poll, released on Monday afternoon.
The USCHO.com Poll consists of 50 voters, including coaches and beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a production of USCHO.com, which provides in-depth coverage of college hockey.
This marks the sixth season that the Broncos have entered a season with a national ranking under head coach Andy Murray. Western Michigan was ranked 19th in the USCHO.com poll to kick off the 2018-19 season. WMU was also picked to finished in third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference preseason media poll.
Fans will have a chance to meet the 2019-20 team on Friday night at Lawson Ice Arena. The event begins at 6:15 p.m., with the first 100 fans arriving getting a free light snack. Students can register to join the Lawson Lunatics and fans can get the 2019-20 poster autographed by the Broncos. The event wraps up at 8 p.m.
Western Michigan officially opens the season with wits annual Border Battle exhibition game. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology comes to Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
