2019 Hall of Fame Spotlight: Shaylen Jackson - Volleyball

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will induct the 2019 Hall of Fame class on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Fetzer Center. The inductees will also be honored the following day on Saturday, Sept. 28 during halftime of Western Michigan football's game against Central Michigan. This week www.wmubroncos.com will take a closer look at each of our inductees: Shawn Faulkner (football), David Gennero (men's tennis), Frederika Girsang (women's tennis), Bill Horn (ice hockey), Shaylen Jackson (volleyball), and Jeff Zylstra (men's track & field and cross country).

SHAYLEN JACKSON
Shaylen Jackson starred for the WMU volleyball program from 2002-05. As a middle blocker she was a First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection in 2004 and 2005, while also earning Honorable Mention honors for the 2003 season. She earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman team in 2002. During her senior season she was also named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention. Jackson holds program records for career blocks with 563 and career block assists with 459, career blocks per set with 1.25. Jackson is third all-time in career attack percentage at .332 and seventh all-time in career points with 1,635.5. She was a member of the WMU Volleyball All Decade Team for 2004-13 

Q&A With Shaylen Jackson

Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were being inducted?
I was really excited, and honored. It's a privilege to be recognized for your work on a platform like this.

Q: Do you have some favorite memories from your time competing at WMU?
When we beat highly ranked Ohio State in a tournament our junior year. I believe we set the blocking record in the match and shut down their all American outside hitter.

Q: What has life been like for you since leaving Western Michigan?
Life has been full but good.  I pursued some of the passions I developed during my time at Western in travel, ministry, and developing relationships around the country.
