KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan cross country team heads to East Lansing for the 39th annual Auto-Owners Spartan Invitational sponsored by Playmakers on Friday at Forest Akers East Golf Course.
The Broncos will take part in the 6k race at 11 a.m., the team's first 6k race of the season. WMU is one of 30 collegiate women's teams competing in the race.
After falling to Eastern Michigan to open the season last Friday, WMU looks for improvements in a race that has been a staple on its schedule. Last season it was
Paisley Sipes who paced the team, running a time of 23:38.7 to finish 52nd in a race that featured 230 competitors. Sipes, now a sophomore, was WMU's second finisher last week at the George Dales Invitational after running a 5k time of 18:55.1, a collegiate personal best.
Senior
Brittney Hall, who did not compete at last year's Spartan Invitational, set the standard for the team last Friday, finishing fourth overall with a time of 18:12.6. The mark was a cross country 5k personal best for the Macomb, Mich., native.
The Broncos take next weekend off before heading to the University of Notre Dame for the 2019 Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4.
