Men’s Basketball Unveils 2019-20 Non-Conference Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan men's basketball and head coach Steve Hawkins unveiled its 2019-20 non-conference schedule on Tuesday that features six home contests along with match-ups against Power Five schools Mississippi, Oklahoma State and Michigan State.

The Broncos begin the 2019-20 campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a home match-up against McNeese State. WMU looks to begin the season 1-0 for the fourth straight year and win its ninth straight home opener.

Western Michigan then hits the road for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 9 for a showdown with the Milwaukee Panthers. The Brown & Gold return home on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for a contest against Mississippi Valley State before traveling to SEC country for the second year in a row to square off with the University of Mississippi on Friday, Nov. 15.

After a brief home stint against Alma College on Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Broncos embark on a five-day road trip beginning on Friday, Nov. 22 in Stillwater, Okla., against Oklahoma State. It will be the first ever meeting between the Broncos and Cowboys.

WMU stays on the road and begins play in Orlando, Fla. on Monday, Nov. 25 against Ivy League Co-Champion Yale as part of the Orland Bracket of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The following day, WMU will square off with either Bucknell or the University of Seattle.

Beginning in the month of December, three of WMU's first four non-conference games are at home. The month kicks off with a two-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against in-state mid-major power Oakland followed by Youngstown State on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Broncos will enjoy a week off before heading to the Big Apple for a showdown with Manhattan on Saturday, Dec. 14. For the second straight year, WMU will host Aquinas College on Wednesday, Dec. 18 in its final home non-conference contest.

Rounding out non-conference play, WMU will head to East Lansing for a showdown with in-state foe Michigan State on either Sunday, Dec. 29 or Monday, Dec. 30. It will be the 39th meeting between the Broncos and Spartans and first since 1998. The Spartans went 32-7 a year ago and fell to Texas Tech in the NCAA Tournament National Semifinal game.

It will be the fourth straight year the Brown & Gold have played an opponent that is coming off a Final Four appearance. The Broncos played defending national champion Villanova in 2016, South Carolina twice in 2017 and National Championship runner-up Michigan last season.

Game times for all non-conference contests are yet to be determined. The Mid-American Conference schedule is set to be released at a later date. WMU Men's Basketball season ticket renewals for the 2019-20 season are currently being accepted. For
