KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan senior running back LeVante Bellamy has been named to the watch list for the 83rd annual Maxwell Award as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday afternoon.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

Bellamy had a career-best year last season, finishing second in the Mid-American Conference with 1,228 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The Indianapolis, Ind., native was named First Team All-MAC after averaging 6.0 yards per carry and 94.5 yards per game on the ground.  Bellamy helped the Broncos average 199.5 yards per game, third-best in the MAC. Through the air, he had 30 receptions for 185 yards and a touchdown.

Bellamy is one of three players from the MAC named to the watch list, joining Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson and Ohio quarterback Nathan Rourke.
