KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Thursday that Western Michigan men's basketball has earned its Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2018-19 season.
This award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA of 3.0 or better for the 2018-19 season. It's the first time since 2012-13 the Broncos have earned the academic recognition.
In the classroom during the spring semester, the Broncos posted a 3.21 GPA while during the Fall semester had 10 players registering a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Senior
Seth Dugan led the Brown & Gold on the court and in the classroom in 2018-19. The Otsego, Mich., native graduated with a 3.97 cumulative GPA in finance and was named a
CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. Dugan is also a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree and is the only player in program history to earned MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors three years in a row.

Jared Printy and
Adida Ikongshul earned Academic All-MAC honors this season as WMU led the Mid-American Conference with three student-athletes earning the academic recognition. WMU has had at least two players earn Academic All-MAC in each of the past five seasons.
Western Michigan along with the University of Toledo are the only schools out of 150 NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA to earn the 2018-19 Team Academic Excellence award.
