KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan baseball product
Nate Grys is continuing his dream of playing professionally after signing a contract to join the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers of the United Shore Professional Baseball League.
The USPBL is based in Michigan with four member teams playing a 75-game schedule from May through September. Since the league's inception in 2016, nearly 30 players have gone on to sign with Major League organizations.
Grys played in 163 games, starting 156 primarily in the outfield during his four years at Western Michigan. Grys' is etched across the entire WMU record book, ranking sixth in program history in career RBIs (130), fifth in doubles (43), fourth in home runs (24) and 10th in total bases (296).
During his senior campaign the Sterling Heights, Mich., native hit .273 with a .472 slugging percentage and was tied for the team lead with 32 RBIs. As a junior, Grys earned Second Team All-Mid-American Conference honors after leading the Broncos in doubles (14), triples (2), home runs (10), RBIs (48), total bases (96) and slugging percentage (.611).
