KALAMAZOO, Mich. – St. Louis Blues' draft pick Hugh McGing has been named the 46th captain of the Western Michigan Hockey team for the 2019-20 season.
The senior forward, who served as an assistant captain last season, returns for his final year after tallying a career-high 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. He had 20 points in conference play on 11 goals and nine assists and was voted Second Team All-National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Through three seasons he has played in 112 career games, racking up 82 points on 33 goals and 49 assists.
The Chicago, Ill., native will be assisted by fellow seniors Wade Allison and Luke Bafia, along with junior Josh Passolt and sophomore Mattias Samuelsson. After battling with injuries, Allison came into form late in the season and finished with 15 points in just 22 games played. Bafia had a career-high 12 points from the blue line on three goals and nine assists in 36 games, also finishing at +6. Passolt exploded to tie McGing for the team lead in goals scored with 16, finishing second on the team with 34 points after adding 18 assists. Samuelsson played in 35 of the 37 games, missing only two due to duties with the Team USA for the World Junior Championships. Logging heaving minutes on the blue line he finished with 12 points on five goals and seven assists.
