Brickey to Add Size, Depth and Skill to the WMU Blue Line

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team welcomes another talented defenseman to its blue line in incoming freshman Scooter Brickey.

Brickey, a 6-foot-3 right-shot, comes to WMU after three full seasons in the United States Hockey League. The 19-year old made his USHL debut back in 2016 with the Muskegon Lumberjacks but saw his career take off after being traded to the Des Moines Buccaneers in 2016. He played in 56 games that season, splitting seven goals and 14 assists between the two teams. After tallying 17 points in the 2017-18 campaign he comes to Lawson Ice Arena on the back of his best season of junior hockey.

Brickey played in a career-high 63 regular season games for the Buccaneers and was the team's top scoring blue-liner with 29 points on eight goals and 21 assists. The Burtchville, Mich., native wrapped up his career with 181 career games played, 17 goals and 50 assists.

Brickey is described as a defenseman that can play in all situations, brings a high compete level and moves the puck well.
