DES MOINES, Iowa – Western Michigan track and field's Allison Hufnagel and Clare Lycan wrapped up the first day of the heptathlon at the prestigious Drake Relays on Wednesday.
Hufnagel led the way, racking up 2,747 points in the four events on the day. Hufnagel's best performance came in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 26.17 seconds to take seventh overall. She also ran a time of 15.51 in the 100-meter hurdles and reached a height of 5' 3" (1.60m) in the high jump. Hufnagel also threw a distance of 29' 0.50" (8.85m) in the shot put.
Lycan ran a time of 26.81 seconds in the 200 and 17.01 in the 100 hurdles. In the shot put she threw 27' 10" (8.48m) and reached height of 4' 11.50" (1.48m) in the high jump.
The duo still has the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run to compete in on Thursday. All three events are strengths for both competitors.
