OXFORD, Ohio - The Western Michigan women's tennis team had its chance of claiming at least a share of the Mid-American Conference regular season title come up short Friday afternoon, falling 4-2 to Miami University.Â
With the win, the Redhawks finish 6-1 in the MAC to claim the league's regular season title, while the Broncos fall to 4-2 during conference play.Â
Miami jumped out to a 1-0 lead, taking the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Lyubomirova & Tjon-A-Joe were first off with a 6-3 win on court two, but WMU's top pair of Fevralev & Tiraspolsky fell in a tight match, 7-5.Â
During singles competition, the home team took a 2-0 advantage with a win on court five, but the Brown & Gold answered with wins from Azcui and Tjon-A-Joe to tie the match at 2-2. However, the Redhawks responded with victories on courts six and one to clinch the win.Â
