Women's Basketball Takes Road Defeat at Central Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's basketball team suffered a road loss at Mid-American Conference West division leading Central Michigan University Wednesday evening, falling 88-57.

WMU drops to 10-18 overall and 4-13 in the MAC. The 88 points conceded is a season-high for the Broncos, while the Chippewas nearly shot 50 percent from three-point range and were led by 20 points each from Reyna Frost and Presley Hudson.

CMU shot 12-for-26 from beyond the arc held a 48-26 advantage in rebounds while limiting WMU to a 36.2 field goal percentage and 4-of-17 mark from the arc. The Broncos forced 12 CMU turnovers and tied a season-high with five blocks.

Three Bronco starters scored in double-figures, with Jasmyn Walker leading the way with 16 points. Deja Wimby followed with 15 points, along with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds from Leighah-Amori Wool.

The Chippewas opened the game with a 5-0 lead, in which the Broncos answered to tie the game at 8-8 with two free throws from Wimby following the first media timeout five and a half minutes in. CMU responded with a 9-0 run to take a 17-8 run and force a Bronco timeout with 1:29 remaining in the first quarter. Two free throws from Walker ended the run while CMU took a 17-10 lead into the second quarter.

Three Bronco steals in a row led to Western Michigan trimming the CMU lead to 19-14 just over three minutes into the second quarter. However, Central Michigan closed out the half on a 14-1 run to claim a 33-20 advantage at the break. The Chips claimed their largest lead of the half, a 15-point lead with 26 seconds left.

Around four minutes into the third quarter, a Bronco timeout sparked an 8-0 run that was capped off by WMU's first three-pointer of the night, as Wool got the Brown & Gold back within 10, down 42-32. It stood as the closest margin of the contest as the Chippewas pressed the gas pedal in the back-end of the game.

Leading 54-45 heading into the final 10 minutes, CMU began the final stanza on a 14-3 run to take a 30-point lead and didn't look back, overmatching the Broncos.
