KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team continued its hot streak inside West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday morning, defeating Valparaiso University 6-1. The Broncos improve to 8-4 overall on the season while moving their unbeaten streak to four matches.

WMU also improves to 8-1 on its home court while the 8-4 mark for the Brown & Gold is the best start in since the 2015-2016 season in which the Broncos finished with a 19-8 record.

Western Michigan picked up the doubles point as the pairs of Melina Lyubomirova/ Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Denise Azcui/ Gabriella Slavova picked up wins on courts two and three. Lyubomirova/Tjon-A-Joe extended their win streak to four doubles matches, and are 9-1 in their last ten matches played together.

The Broncos then picked up where they left off in singles play, taking five out of the six singles matches. Melina Lyubomirova improved her singles match winning streak to four with a strong performance at the one spot, defeating Claire Czerwonka 6-1, 6-2. Femke Tjon-A-Joe also picked up a win on court two, 6-0,6-2. The Freshman has now won five in a row.

"We continue to make progress towards our goals for the season," said head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "This group continues to make strides on the court and this weekend helped us play a little better doubles. We are looking forward to our final three non-conference matches and are excited for conference play to get started."
