OSTRAVA, Czech Republic – Western Michigan sophomore defenseman Mattias Samuelsson has been named to the final roster for USA Hockey for the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships, which takes place Dec. 26, 2019 – Jan. 5, 2020 in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.
This is the second straight year that Samuelsson will represent the Stars and Stripes in the prestigious tournament, playing in every game and helping USA to a silver medal last year in Vancouver, Canada. He is only the second Bronco to compete in the tournament more than once, joining Frederik Tiffels represented Germany in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The Buffalo Sabres' draft pick has played in 47 career games with the Broncos, recording 16 points on six goals and four assists. This season he has played in 12 games with a goal and three assists, while recording a +3 plus/minus rating.
USA open the tournament with its first preliminary matchup on Thursday, Dec. 26 against Canada at 1 p.m. ET. The NHL Network will be providing live coverage of all USA's games.
