Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan begins the season 1-0 for the fourth consecutive year after a 75-65 victory over McNeese State on Wednesday. The Broncos look for their first 2-0 start to a season since 2014.
First Impression
Freshman
B. Artis White put on quite a show in his Bronco debut against McNeese State, scoring 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field with four three-pointers. It was the most points scored by a freshman in his debut under head coach
Steve Hawkins.
Flowers Leads the Way
Against McNeese State, junior
Michael Flowers led the Broncos with 24 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. It's the 30th time in his career Flowers has scored in double figures and his 13
th 20-point performance.
On the Horizon (League)
All-time against Horizon League opponents, WMU is 63-49. Over the past three seasons the Brown & Gold hold a 5-1 records against the league with three of WMU's eight wins a year ago coming against the Horizon League.
Protecting the Ball
With just six turnovers on Wednesday against McNeese State, the Broncos rank second in the NCAA for fewest turnovers this season.
Non-Conference Success
Since 2002, Western Michigan has compiled 117 victories against non-conference opponents.
Scouting the Competition
Milwaukee got its season off to a fast start, defeating Concordia Wisconsin, 72-62 on Tuesday. The Panthers had three score in double figures with guard Te'Jon Lucas leading the way with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Last year Milwaukee finished the season with an overall record of 9-22 and 4-14 in Horizon League play.
