KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team has announced its recruiting class for the 2020-21 season.
Nejla Zukic,
Paula Wohlers and
Karin Hamilton have all signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Broncos.
Zukic is a native of Louisville, Ky., and has represented her state in each age group at the Southern Cup, which is an event where the top three players from each state in the Southern section are invited to compete. In 2016, she was the runner-up at the Bosnia and Herzegovina Open and she also advanced to the second round of the Junior Orange Bowl main draw.
Wohlers, who hails from Frankfurt, Germany, was ranked 73rd in the German junior rankings this year after winning multiple Frankfurt singles titles. She won the UK team championship with Talbot Health School in 2017 and played with the Safo Club team in the Regionalliga, which is the third level league in Germany. Paula is the daughter of Ulf Georg and Susann Wohlers, and she has one brother. She attended high school at Woehlerschule in Frankfurt.
Hamilton resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is a seven-time ITF doubles semifinalist, advancing to the finals three times. She won the G5 Panama ITF singles championship in 2018 and was an under-18 Junior Canadian National finalist in doubles. Karin holds a current UTR rating of 9.75, with her personal best rating coming in at 9.99.
"I couldn't be more excited to have this group of young ladies commit to becoming Broncos," exclaimed head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "Nejla, Paula and Karin are very talented on the court and in the classroom. The success that they have had over the years against high level competition is very impressive. All three of them love the game and they have the potential to be one of our strongest recruiting classes in program history, as they all have a desire to grow and get better. They will all have an immediate impact for us in our lineup and I can't wait for them to arrive on campus and have the opportunity to coach them."
