Scouting the Broncos
The Broncos return to the court in 2019-20 after coming off an 8-24 overall record and 2-16 in the Mid-American Conference. The Broncos are led by junior guard
Michael Flowers whose 501 total points a year ago was the third most by a sophomore in school history.
Flowers Named to Preseason All-MAC West Team
Junior
Michael Flowers was named to the preseason All-MAC West team the league office announced on Thursday. Flowers was one of two players to play and start in all 32 games for the Broncos last season, averaging 15.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
MAC West Preseason Coaches' Poll
As voted on by the MAC coaches, Western Michigan was picked to finish fifth in the MAC West with 23 votes, ahead of Eastern Michigan with 16. Toledo was picked to win the west division while Bowling Green was picked to win the east.
Plenty to Look Forward Too
Overall WMU returns 61.3 percent of its scoring from a year ago, the second highest percentage in the MAC West and fifth highest in the MAC. Saturday's exhibition contest will also mark the return of redshirt junior
Brandon Johnson and redshirt sophomore
Jason Whitens to the court. Both Johnson and Whitens were injured last season.
Diving Into the Schedule
The 2019-20 schedule features 15 home contests inside University Arena. WMU will also square off three teams from the Power Five in Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Michigan State. It's the third time in the last four seasons, WMU has faced at least three times from the Power Five conferences.
The WMU Final Four
When Western Michigan squares off with Michigan State in East Lansing on Dec. 29, it will mark the fourth consecutive year in which the Brown & Gold will face a team that went to the Final Four the previous season.
What's On Deck
Following Saturday's exhibition contest against the Hornets, WMU will open up the 2019-20 regular season at home on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. against McNeese State. WMU will follow up the home opener with a road trip to Milwaukee on Saturday, Nov. 9.
