Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan has an overall record of 11-5, 2-2 in Mid-American Conference and has four of its next six matches at home inside University Arena. Last weekend the Broncos split their matches, sweeping Toledo before falling to Ball State in four sets.
First & Second Set Success
When winning the first set this season, Western Michigan is 9-0. The Broncos are a perfect 8-0 when winning the second set.
Double-Double's
In 16 matches this season, the Broncos have already totaled 18 double-double performances with junior
Rachel Bontrager leading the team with six. WMU has already surpassed last year's season total of 17.
We Dig It
Senior
Kathleen Reilly is one of the best defensive players in the nation, ranking 17
th in the NCAA in digs per set (5.28) and 23
rd in total digs (322). Earlier this season, Reilly became the third player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career digs.
The 100 Club
The Broncos have three players with over 100 kills with Bontrager (235), freshman
Maggie King (178) and sophomore
Meredith Phillips (118) each doing so.
Near the Top of the MAC
WMU's offense ranks near the top in multiple statistical categories, ranking second in the hitting percentage (.224) and kills per set (13.31) along with fourth in assists (12.31) and fifth in digs (15.79)
Scouting the Competition
Northern Illinois (5-13, 2-2 MAC): NIU heads to Kalamazoo after recording a split last weekend, falling at Ball State prior to defeating Toledo . NIU has four players with over 100 kills, led by Kennedy Wallace with 183.
Bowling Green (9-7, 3-1 MAC): The defending MAC regular season champions are off to a strong start once again with a 3-1 conference record. Last weekend, BGSU fell at home to Akron in four sets before sweeping Buffalo. Prior to heading to Kalamazoo, the Falcons square off with Miami on Thursday.
