Broncos Fall for First Time in MAC Play

YPSILANTI, MIch. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team had its three game unbeaten streak snapped, falling at Eastern Michigan, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Scicluna Field.

WMU (4-6-1, 2-1-1 MAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead but EMU scored three goals in a 13-minute span in the in the second half to undo the lead. Morgan Otteson and Bailey Korhorn scored for the Broncos, while Maggie Rogers made five saves. The Eagles outshot Western Michigan 16-14 on the day, with WMU having the slight advantage in shots on goal at 7-6.

Otteson's team-leading sixth goal of the season gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Her career-best tally was set up by Grace Labadie.

After taking the 1-0 lead into the second half, WMU added to its lead in the 59th minute on Korhorn's fourth of the season. Freshman midfielder Jorden Campbell set up the goal, tallying her first collegiate assist in the process as Western Michigan went up 2-0.

Lindsey Shira's first of two goals cut the lead in half. Shira scored unassisted in the at 69:13. Just 27 seconds later Amanda Cripps converted a penalty kick to tie the game up at 2-2. Shira scored another unassisted goal in the 83rd minute for the eventual game winner.

WMU heads to Oxford, Ohio, for its third straight Mid-American Conference road game at Miami on Thursday at 4 p.m. The Broncos return home to host Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
