Flowers Named Preseason All-MAC West; MAC Coaches’ Poll Released

CLEVELAND –  The Mid-American Conference announced its men's basketball preseason coaches' poll and All-MAC teams on Thursday with Western Michigan men's basketball junior guard Michael Flowers earning preseason All-MAC West honors.

Flowers was one of two Broncos to play and start in all 32 games last season, averaging 15.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game with 104 assists and 28 steals. During his sophomore campaign, Flowers scored in double figures in 26 games including 12 20-point performances.

The Southfield, Mich., native ended the 2018-19 season with 501 points, the fifth most points in a single-season by a sophomore in school history. Flowers also had 66 three-pointers a year ago, the 10th most in a single-season in school history while also have 196 three-point attempts, the fifth most in a season.

Along with Flowers earning preseason All-MAC West honors, the Broncos were picked to finish fifth in the west division with 23 votes, ahead of Eastern Michigan with 16. Toledo was picked to win the west division with 11 first-place votes while in the east division Bowling Green was picked to win with nine first-place votes.

Bowling Green is picked to win the MAC Tournament title with six first-place votes followed by Toledo, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami and Northern Illinois.

Western Michigan hosts Kalamazoo College in its lone exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m. before kicking off the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at home against McNeese State. For ticket information, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
