Bontrager Named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND – On Monday the Mid-American Conference announced that Western Michigan volleyball junior outside hitter Rachel Bontrager has been named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week.

It's the third weekly conference honor for Bontrager and first since winning back-to-back MAC West player of the week awards to begin the season.

Bontrager led the Broncos over the weekend with 43 kills in two matches, averaging 4.30 per set. It was the most kills she has had in a two-match span this season. The Valparaiso, Ind., native collected 24 kills on Saturday against Kent State, one shy of her career-high.

The junior outside hitter has registered double-digit kills in a career-high 13 straight contests and became the first Bronco this season to eclipse the 300-kill mark. Bontrager leads the MAC with 335 kills, averaging 3.76 per set.

Bontrager is also one of the premier offensive players in the country, ranking 28th in the NCAA in total kills and 34th in total points. She is also just 125 kills away from ranking tenth in school history for kills in a single-season.
