KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan cross country team heads to Dexter, Mich., and Hudson Mills Metro Park for the Eastern Michigan University Fall Classic 5k on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

It is the final race before the Broncos head off to the Mid-American Conference Championship next Saturday in at Northern Illinois.

Up for grabs at the EMU Fall Classic is the final two spots on WMU's MAC Championship roster. With the top seven solidifying themselves last week at the Under Armour Pre-Nationals, five athletes will compete to fill the final two spots.

"I think the most important thing is making the girls understand that we have to be competitive at the conference level, first and foremost, before we can think about going beyond that," said head coach Makiba Batten. "This is about making everyone accountable. Even though we can only score five at the MAC Championship, I still need four girls that are going to be competing on that course, involved in that race. Maybe they can squeeze in and help us round out those points or block some other team's points."

"This is a high pressure meet and a high pressure situation," added assistant coach Tony Filipek. "You don't get involved in college athletics if you aren't able to compete in these situations."
