BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Western Michigan goalie Bandon Bussi made a career-high 36 saves but the 14th-ranked Broncos fell at Bowling Green, 2-1, at Slater Family Arena on Friday night.

WMU (1-1-1) was outshot 38-22 overall on the night but the freshman goalie kept the Broncos in the game, making 16 of his saves in the first period. Senior forward Hugh McGing score the lone goal for Western Michigan on the night. Both of the Falcon's goals came on the power play, finishing 2-for-6 on the night, while WMU was held scoreless on three.

After nearly two periods of scoreless hockey, Freddy Letournea redirected a shot from TJ Lloyd past Bussi and into the net with 47 seconds left in the second. Max Johnson and Lloyd picked up assists on the goal.

WMU evened it up at 13:56 in the third period when McGing deflected a shot by Josh Passolt past BGSU goalie Eric Dop. Sophomore defenseman Michael Joyaux picked up his team-high third assist on the goal as well.

WMU took a penalty shortly after and Max Johnson picked up the puck on a blocked shot by Alec Rauhauser in the left circle and fired it into the net to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead with 4:24 to go.

The Broncos pulled Bussi to get the extra attacker but Dop and the Falcons held on for the win.

The two teams play for the third straight game on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in Kalamazoo. The game is also being streamed on
NCHC.tv. The Bronco Radio Network broadcast will be on 590 AM/106.9 FM in the Kalamazoo area and on WKZO.com due to a scheduling conflict with the WMU football game at Eastern Michigan.
