Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime to Ball State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell to Ball State in double overtime, 2-1, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

BSU's Peighton Cook drove down into the right side of the field and crossed from just outside the box. Julia Elvbo got a foot on it and sent it into the top left corner of the net in the 105th minute to win it for the Cardinals.

It was the Broncos (5-7-1, 3-2-1 MAC) that struck first, scoring in the 26th minute. The two teams had to adjust to wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour. Once WMU got the feel of it Hannah Kahn drove to the goal line on the right side and crossed it into the middle of the box for Grace Labadie to redirect into the net for her second goal of the season and taking a 1-0 lead.

Ball State responded in the 37th minute to tie it up at 1-1. Melissa Diceman held up the ball at the top of the box and passed it off to Claudia Como on the right side. Como fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

The two teams played an even game in the second half, with both teams getting off six total shots each. Ball State carried possession in the first overtime period but WMU's defense didn't allow a shot attempt.

Overall, BSU outshot WMU 14-10 on the day with many of the attempts coming from distance. WMU goalie Maggie Rogers made three saves in the loss.

Western Michigan heads back on the road, where it is 2-1 in MAC play this season. The Broncos take on Akron next Friday and Buffalo on Sunday.
