The Western Michigan men's soccer team will open Mid-American Conference play against West Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

West Virginia Series History
The Broncos and Mountaineers have played eight times previously, with the series tied at 3-3-2. Western Michigan last beat WVU in the MAC Semifinals in 2017.

Scouting the Mountaineers
West Virginia won the MAC regular season championship in 2018 after going 5-0 in conference play. The Mountaineers have lost their last two matches, both coming against nationally ranked teams.

Reigning Second Team All-MAC performer Andres Muriel Albino leads his team with six goals on the year, while freshman midfielder Luke McCormick is the current conference co-leader in assists.

MAC Opener
Western Michigan is 2-1-3 in its last six MAC season opening contests. The Broncos, who were picked to finish second in the conference preseason coaches' poll, finished 2018 in third place after going 1-1-2 in MAC action.

Winning Streak
The Broncos have won three matches in row, which included a victory at in-state opponent Oakland on Wednesday. Western Michigan is currently ranked tenth in the United Soccer Coaches North Region rankings.

Bowie Racking up Accolades
Senior midfielder Anthony Bowie was named the MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, earning that honor for the second time this year. The Grand Rapids native, who was also named to the National Team of the Week by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News, scored game-winning goals for the Broncos against Xavier and nationally ranked Loyola Marymount.
