Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  –  Western Michigan volleyball and head coach Colleen Munson announced the 2018 schedule on Thursday, which includes 13 home matches inside University Arena.

Western Michigan will host Hillsdale College on Friday, August 17 at 1:00 p.m. in an exhibition contest before kicking off the 2018 campaign, Aug. 24-25 at the Kangaroo Klassic, hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City. At the Kangaroo Klassic, the Broncos begin the season with a match-up against NCAA Tournament participant Austin Peay before taking on UMKC and South Dakota State. 

The home opener is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m. against Chicago State before heading to Indianapolis for the Hampton Inn Invitational. WMU will take on tournament host IUPUI (Aug. 31) to begin the tournament, followed by Northern Arizona and SIU-Edwardsville on Sept. 1.

For the third year in a row, WMU will host a tournament inside University Arena. The Broncos will square off with Milwaukee and Loyola-Chicago on Friday, Sept. 7 before challenging Canisius and Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 8. Last season the Brown & Gold won its home tournament after sweeping Oakland and Southern Illinois.

WMU heads to East Lansing for its final non-conference tournament, Sept. 14-15 against Albany, UAB and host school Michigan State before beginning opening up Mid-American Conference play at home on Friday, Sept. 21 versus Ball State.

The Broncos host MAC West foe Toledo on Saturday, Sept. 22 before embarking on a four-game road trip beginning on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Northern Illinois. WMU returns home for match-ups against Buffalo (Oct. 12) and Akron (Oct. 13) before another four-game road swing starting on Friday, Oct. 19 at Ohio.

The Brown & Gold have four straight home matches to end the season beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 31 against Northern Illinois. WMU then hosts defending MAC Tournament champion Miami on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. It will be a rematch of the 2017 MAC Tournament Championship game.

To end the season, the Broncos square off with in-state rivals Eastern Michigan (Nov. 9) and Central Michigan (Nov.10). WMU seeks its first MAC regular season title since 2008 and 10th overall.

The 2018 MAC Tournament will be held Nov. 15-18 in Oxford, Ohio at Millett Hall on the campus of Miami University. WMU has won at least one game in the MAC Tournament every year since 2008.
