HOUSTON – Western Michigan University Senior Associate Athletics Director
Monty Porter has been the named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Administration at the University of Houston. Porter has spent the last 23 years at Western Michigan University, including more than 20 years on the athletics' executive management team.

Kathy Beauregard. "His leadership has been instrumental over the years in so many different areas, from administration to finances & operations and as a sports supervisor. We know he is looking forward to a new challenge and we wish him all of the best as he begins his new role at the University of Houston."

At Western Michigan, Porter started as an assistant athletics director for business operations in 1995 before being promoted to associate athletics director in 1999 and later senior associate athletics director in 2014.

A member of Western Michigan's four-person executive management team, Porter oversaw financial activities, external operations, facilities, human resources operations and served as a liaison to the university general counsel.

Porter also served as a sport administrator for the Broncos' Football, Ice Hockey and Women's Gymnastics programs. In addition, he served as an instructor for eight years for a Financial Management in Sport graduate course.

Prior to his time at Western Michigan, Porter spent four years at Lamar University, rising from assistant athletic business manager and ticket manager to assistant athletics director for business and operations where he also oversaw facility maintenance and improvements while managing ticket operations.

He received his start in athletics at The University of Iowa, serving as a graduate assistant in the athletics ticket office and business office following an athletics administration internship and serving as a student manager for the Hawkeye Football program.

Porter earned a bachelor of science from Iowa in 1989 and master of arts in 1990.

He will officially start his role at Houston May 21.
