KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its final tournament of the 2018 fall season on Sunday, Nov. 4 with the final round of the WMU Super Challenge at West Hills Athletic Club.
WMU went 4-2 during the final singles matches to conclude the tournament. The Brown & Gold completed the Super Challenge with an 11-11 singles record and a 9-3 doubles record.
Katja Fevralev,
Elizabeth Trupp,
Valerie Riegraf, and
Taylor Smith each tallied singles wins during the final day of competition.
The trio of Fevralev,
Melina Lyubomirova, and Riegraf each went 2-0 in singles at the Super Challenge, while the doubles pairs of
Jeryn Jack &
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Fevralev &
Kristina Tiraspolsky both went 2-0 throughout the weekend.
Throughout four tournaments in the fall season, Western Michigan totaled 30 singles victories and more than tripled its number of doubles wins from last season with 20 this year.
"This weekend was a great ending to our fall season," said head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "We challenged the group mentally and physically this fall and they responded very well. We still having some things to work on and refine before we come back in January but I love where we're at and where we're headed."
The Broncos will take a couple months off from competition before returning to action on Jan. 12, 2019 with a home match versus Oakland University.
