KALAMAZOO, Mich./TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team completed day one of competition at both the Bronco Hidden Duals at West Hills Athletic Club and the Roberta Allison Fall Classic at the University of Alabama on Friday, Oct. 26.Â
Day one of the Bronco Hidden Duals consisted of one round of singles and two rounds of doubles.
Gabriela Slavova,
Elizabeth Trupp, and
Jeryn Jack each picked up singles victories, while the Broncos went 0-4 in doubles play.Â
In Tuscaloosa,
Melina Lyubomirova,Â
Denise Azcui,Â
Femke Tjon-A-Joe,Â
Katja Fevralev, andÂ
Kristina Tiraspolsky each competed in separate singles draws. All five dropped their first round matches, but Lyubomirova, Tjon-A-Joe, and Tiraspolsky bounced back with wins to advance to consolation title matchups.Â
In the Roberta Allison Classic doubles draws, WMU went 2-0. The pair ofÂ
Denise Azcui and
Kristina Tiraspolsky defeated Alex Alegre/Adelaide Lavery from Tulane 7-6 (5).Â
Melina Lyubomirova and
Femke Tjon-A-Joe also advanced to the semifinals in their draw with a 6-0 win over Dominika Hrabalova/Jana Hecking from UAB.Â
Competition at the Bronco Hidden Duals will resume tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8 a.m. from West Hills Athletic Club with another round of singles and doubles. The Roberta Allison tournament will continue tomorrow starting with doubles at 10 a.m. (ET).
