Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into the 2018-19 campaign with a young squad as the Broncos have nine underclassmen on the roster. The Brown & Gold return nine from last year's squad that had an overall record of 17-15 and 9-9 in conference play.
Welcoming the Newcomers
The Broncos welcome six newcomers to the 2018-19 team with the freshman class of
DJ Houston,
Adrian Martin,
Luke Toliver,
Patrick Emilien and
William Boyer-Richard. The Broncos also added junior college transfer Kawanise "Squeaky" Wilkins.
Young Broncos
With nine underclassmen on the roster heading into 2018-19, the Broncos are the fourth youngest team in the Mid-American Conference.
Offensive Mind
Last season the Brown & Gold scored 2,4-02 points, averaging 75.1 per game. The 2,402 points is the fifth most in a single season in program history.
A Look Into the 2018-19 Schedule
It will be a challenging 2018-19 schedule for the young Broncos with match-ups against three NCAA tournament teams and two that are currently ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 (Cincinnati, Michigan). The Broncos have 14 home contests along with a daunting road slate that includes games at Ole Miss (Nov.10), Cincinnati (Nov.19), Michigan (Dec. 15) and Dayton (Dec. 19).
On the Horizon
Western Michigan will play one more exhibition contests on Saturday, Nov. 3 against cross street rival Kalamazoo College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The Broncos begin the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Detroit Mercy.
Last Time Out vs. Northwood
The Broncos and Timberwolves met last season inside University Arena with WMU coming away with a 88-59 victory. Western Michigan was dominant in the paint, outscoring Northwood, 54-18 en route to the win.
Scouting Northwood University
Last season Northwood finished with an overall record of 11-17 and 7-13 in conference play and averaged 70.9 points per game. This season the Timberwolves were picked to finish sixth in GLIAC south division and are led by preseason All-GLIAC South Division Guard Trey McBride.
