Becky Horn
Horn, a native of Battle Creek, Mich., competed for the Bronco track & field team from 2005-08 and is the program's only three-time USTFCCCA All-American, earning the honors during the indoor seasons in 2007 and 2008 and outdoors in 2008, all in the 800m run. In her time in Brown & Gold, Horn totaled a remarkable 17 Mid-American Conference titles as an eight-time individual MAC title winner (two each in indoor/outdoor 400m dash and 800m run) and a nine-time MAC title winner as part of the 4x400m and 4x100m relays. While being selected as a First-Team All-MAC honoree six times, Horn capped off her final season as a Bronco in 2008 by finishing third in the 800m at the Outdoor NCAA Championships after earning the MAC Most Outstanding Track Performer in both the indoor and outdoor MAC Championships.

Q & A With Becky Horn
Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were being inducted?
I was shocked. I got a phone call from
Kathy Beauregard and she said she had some exciting news. She told me I was inducted and my jaw dropped and I didn't know what to say. I guess especially with it being so quick. I have been out of college for 10 years, but for some people it takes a while. I was very shocked and honored.
I was just happy that I was chosen. It obviously showed that I did was I was supposed to and made an impact. That is amazing. I am really super excited, honored, and blessed. I am looking forward to seeing a lot of my friends and family.
Q: Do you have some favorite memories from your time competing at WMU?
I competed in nationals and regionals, but the MAC Championships were always so hyped. It was always really exciting and the atmosphere with the girls was always memorable.
Especially my junior and senior year, I doubled up in the 400m and 800m, which was something that I never in my right mind would have thought about doing coming into Western Michigan. We got the all-time record in the MAC 4x4, that experience was great. The MAC meets were always so much fun.
Obviously going and competing at NCAA's with the best of the best was awesome. We always were trying to get Western up on the board. A lot of times you only hear about the big-time schools and to be able to show out for the MAC was great.
Q: Who were some of the people at Western Michigan that made your time memorable?
Definitely Coach
Kelly Lycan. He believed in me and offered me a full-ride scholarship. He pushed me to my limits and helped me see the big picture. Sometimes being competitive in sports and dedicating a lot of time with school can get overwhelming and frustrating, but he (Lycan) always helped me see the big picture of what I was trying to accomplish.
All of Western's athletic staff was always so supportive. I could name so many people but I feel like everyone was supportive of the track program and it really made it better for us athletes. We wanted to win for Western Michigan, not just for ourselves.
Â
Q: Have you kept up with the program since you left?
I talk to Coach Lycan regularly, just kind of updating me with the team and I try to get up there to watch some meet and talk to the girls. I definitely stay connected and I still talk to a lot of my college teammates.
Q: What has life been like for you since leaving Western Michigan?
I stayed around for a while and did unattached running for a couple of years. That was an experience and it was fun. Now I live in Little Rock, Ark. and work as a buyer at Dillard's, which is kind of what I got my degree in, selling apparel. It is kind of nice to be able to put forth my degree. It has been amazing and I love it.
