WMU Announces 2025 Athletics Hall of Fame Class

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the WMU Athletics Hall of Fame Committee have announced the 2025 Hall of Fame Class.

This year's inductees include David Kool (men's basketball), Meredith Whitney Buchanan (softball), Nancy Martin (women's tennis), Mike Eastwood (hockey), and Jake Moreland (football). The five will be honored at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony during WMU's Homecoming weekend, October 10-11.

"The 2025 Hall of Fame class showcases individuals who have elevated Western Michigan University Athletics with their talent, leadership, and accomplishments," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae. "Each inductee left a legacy on their respective programs, and we are excited to celebrate them during Homecoming Weekend."

David Kool
Men's Basketball | 2006–2010 | Grand Rapids, Mich.
  • WMU's all-time leading scorer with 2,122 career points
  • 2010 MAC Player of the Year
  • Two-time First Team All-MAC (2008, 2010)
  • 2007 MAC Freshman of the Year
  • Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American (2009)
  • "ESPN the Magazine" Academic All-American (2009)
  • Led MAC in scoring in 2009 and 2010
  • Holds WMU single-season record for points (714, 2009–10) and made free throws (209, 2009–10)
Meredith Whitney Buchanan
Softball | 2008–2012 | Scottsdale, Ariz.
  • Member of 2011 MAC Regular Season & Tournament Championship team
  • 2009 MAC Freshman of the Year
  • 2011 MAC Tournament MVP
  • Three-time First Team All-MAC selection (2009, 2011, 2012)
  • WMU career record holder for innings pitched (720.2) and strikeouts (742)
  • Ranks second all-time in wins (62) and complete games (82)
Nancy Martin
Women's Tennis | 1981–1984 | Portage, Mich.
  • Member of 1984 MAC Regular Season Championship team
  • Two-time MAC Doubles Champion (1981, 1983)
  • Team Captain (1984)
  • Career winning percentage of .730, ranking fifth all-time in program history
  • One of only six players in program history with a career winning percentage above .700
Mike Eastwood
Hockey | Center | 1987–1991 | Ottawa, Ontario
  • 1991 CCHA All-Tournament Team
  • Second Team All-CCHA (1990–91)
  • Scored 149 points in 164 career games (.91 points per game)
  • Played 783 regular-season NHL games, recording 236 points
  • Appeared in 97 NHL playoff games
 
Jake Moreland
Football | Tight End | 1996–1999 | Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Four-year starter and Team Captain (1999)
  • All-MAC First Team (1998) and Second Team (1999)
  • Holds WMU record for most receptions by a tight end (143)
  • Second among WMU tight ends in receiving yards (1,414)
  • Played in NFL for New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Houston Texans
  • Later served as WMU assistant coach and offensive coordinator, coaching All-American and NFL draft pick and WMU Athletics Hall of Famer Tony Scheffler

Event Details
The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place Friday, October 10, at 7 p.m. at Heritage Hall. This event is open to the public and fans can purchase tickets for $50 each.
