KENT, Ohio –  Kent State's Mitch Peterson nailed a jumper off an offensive rebound with 0.3 seconds left as Western Michigan men's basketball fell to Kent State, 73-71 on Tuesday night inside the M.A.C. Center.

After getting a key defensive stop with 10 seconds left, sophomore Reggie Jones grabbed the rebound and went coast-to-coast to tie the game at 71-71. On the ensuing possession, KSU's Kevin Zabo drove the lane and fired up a shot that went off the rim and into the hands of Peterson for the game-winner.

The Broncos stormed back in the second half after trailing by as many at 18 thanks in large part to 21 second half free-throws. In the final 20 minutes of play, WMU outscored Kent State, 38-28.

The loss drops WMU to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in Mid-American Conference play. The Broncos next game is at home on Friday, Jan. 19 on ESPNU against preseason MAC East favorite Buffalo.

At the free-throw line the Broncos went 16-of-24 and 15-of-21 in the second half alone. Kent State held the slim advantage on the boards as they outrebounded WMU, 35-33.

In the first half WMU trailed by as many at 18 as midway through KSU embarked on a 17-4 run to increase their lead. It ultimately ended up being a 25-9 run for the Golden
Flashes, highlighted by back-to-back three's from Zabo and forward Danny Pippen. KSU made their first eight three-pointers and shot 72 percent from three en route to a 45-33 lead at half.

The Broncos clawed their way back in the second half as WMU shot 21 free-throws to cut the KSU lead to 10 with nine minutes to play. After holding Kent State scoreless nearly four minutes, WMU got to within single digits after a 5-0 run. Down the stretch, Zabo rattled in a corner three with 1:15 left to give KSU a four-point lead before Reggie Jones scored the final four points for the Broncos to tie the game up at 71-71.
