KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Indiana 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.
The Hooisers scored all four goals in the second half. Senior goalie Stephanie Heber made 11 saves on the day.
The first half was full of fast-pace action with both teams having chances on goal. Heber made six of her saves in the first 45 minutes, including stopping two shots from point-blank range. Ashleigh Garcia and Roselyn Kyeame both had chances for the Broncos. Keyame's came from 8-yards out in the left-side of the box.
After a scoreless first half Indiana broke the tie in the 54th minute on a goal by Chandra Davidson. Annelie Leitner flicked the ball over a WMU defender in the box to Davidson and she shot it past Heber to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead.
IU extended its lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute when Abby Allen crossed it from the left side into the box to Maya Piper. Piper headed it into the net for her second goal of the season.
Just over a minute later the Broncos countered but Emma Kahn's shot hit the right post and Hannah Kahn's rebound attempt was deflected out of play.
Indiana put the game out of reach in the 81st minute when Davidson crossed it from the right side and Piper headed it into the left corner of the net. Davidson added her second goal of the game in the 88th minute.
Western Michigan is back on the road at Ohio State on Friday at 5 p.m. and then at Fort Wayne on Sunday at 1 p.m.
