BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – A four-run eighth inning by Bowling Green helped the home-team Falcons down the Western Michigan baseball team 8-5 Saturday afternoon at Stellar Field. The Broncos held a 5-4 lead after their two-run top of the eighth inning and outhit Bowling Green 13-9 in the ball game.

WMU will look to take game three of the series on Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m. with right-hander Kyle Mallwitz scheduled to take the mound for the Broncos.
WMU took a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, scoring one run in each the second and third inning. In the second, Nick Vogelmeier led off with a double to left center and moved up on Jesse Forestell's fly out to center field. Alex Goodwin drove him in on an RBI groundout to shortstop. The Broncos added on to the lead with a run in the top of the third inning off a run-scoring double-play by Tanner Allison, making it 2-0 WMU.
Bowling Green came back to grab a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs off two hits, all coming off a three-run home run with two outs.
The Brown & Gold came right back to tie it up at 3-3 in the top of the fourth, scoring a run thanks to a Tyler Frank RBI double which plated Vogelmeier, who reached on the second of his two doubles during the game.
The Falcons took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run, but WMU came back to own a 5-4 advantage in the top of the eighth inning with a pair of runs. In the eighth, Goodwin led off with a single to center field and Tyler Frank drilled his second career home run to left field, making it a 5-4 ball game with the long ball. Bowling Green came back to score four runs thanks to two hits, one walk and a hit batsman, along with a two-run home run.
WMU used just two pitchers in the ball game, as Jimmy Townsend-Chase started the game and went 3.1 innings while Andrew Reisinger went 4.2 innings to end the game and suffered the loss.
Vogelmeier had a huge day offensively, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and drew a walk. Connor Smith finished 3-for-4 with a run and Frank went 3-for-4 with the big home run and three RBI.
