KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan baseball team won game one of its doubleheader vs. Ohio 3-2, before having its second game halted due to darkness. Game two will be resumed in the eighth inning on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Tanner Allison hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to break the 2-2 tie.
Tyler Frank, who ended game one 2-for-3, led off the ninth with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. Following an intentional walk to
Connor Smith, the bases were loaded when
Grant Miller hit a single to left but it wasn't deep enough to score the run. Allison then had his 50
th RBI of the season to give the Broncos the win.
Frank got the Broncos' first rally started as well, leading off the third with a single. He went to second on another Vogelmeier bunt and scored when Smith drove him in. Miller made it 2-0, hitting a double to left center to bring in Smith.
Kyle Mallwitz threw a gem, as he received the start in game one. He went 7.0 innings, allowing just two runs, one of them earned on six hits. He struck out two without walking a batter.
The Broncos will finish game two of the series down 15-12 in the top of the eighth on Saturday. Immediately following the conclusion of game two, game three will begin, weather permitting.
