Shipman has been hot as of late and it stayed that way, as she scored a season-high 24 points and hitting a trio of 3-pointers, making this the 12th straight game she's made multiple 3-pointers. She also contributed six rebounds, two assists and two steals to the effort tonight. Sophomore Breanna Mobley finished with her 18th double-double of her career, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Redshirt junior Marley Hill added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Chippewas, who only played seven players the entire game, finished with five players in double-figures. Three of the CMU starters played all 40 minutes.
The Broncos grabbed their first and only lead late in the first quarter on a Shipman and-one, leading 12-11 with just over 3:00 to play in the quarter. CMU ended the quarter on a 9-0 run and took a 20-12 lead at the end of one. The Broncos went just about even with the Chippewas in the second quarter, but were still outscored 21-18 as CMU led 41-30 at the break.
WMU stayed tough after letting the CMU lead swell to 16, battling back to make it a seven-point game with 3:44 to play on a pair of free throws by Aneisha Carlisle and a Shipman layup. CMU ended the third quarter with five made 3-pointers, all of which came within a 3:00 span, to lead by 15 heading to the fourth quarter.
CMU outshot the Broncos 49.2 percent to 39.1 percent and hit seven more 3-pointers than the Broncos. WMU shot a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line, but the Chippewas made more in the long run, going 20-for-23.
As previously mentioned, the Broncos will host Northern Illinois on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. on senior night, where WMU will be honoring lone senior Meredith Shipman postgame.
