2017-18 WMU Cheerleading Tryout Information
Dates:
Tryout Weekend
• Friday, April 28, 2017 – 6:30-10:00 p.m.
(Informational Meeting and clinic to teach material required for tryouts)
• Saturday, April 29, 2017 – 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
(Clinic to teach material required for tryouts, conditioning test, judged on tumbling, and Interview)
(Depending on the number of participants, a cut may be made after this session)
• Sunday, April 30, 2017 – 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
(Final Tryout)

Tryout Requirements:
• Partner Stunting (subject to change)
-- Co-ed: Chair, Walk-in hands to Extension, Toss hands to Liberty, Heel-stretch dismount
-- All-Girl: Toss Hands, Toss Cupie, Liberty, Heel-stretch dismount
• Tumbling
• WMU Fight Song
• Sideline Cheer
• Interview
• Conditioning Test
--Mile and a half run
--Pushups
** These sessions are considered mandatory; you may be excused only with permission of the coach. Attendance is highly recommended, as most of the spots available on the team will be given out on this weekend.
** Video tryouts will NOT be accepted.
** Proof of health insurance required for team participation
General Information:
• All tryout participants must be currently enrolled or have applied to the University. Those currently enrolled at WMU must bring a copy of their spring schedule or acceptance letter to the first clinic. Those with admissions pending must bring a copy of their admissions application or any paperwork they have received from the admissions office.
• The following forms MUST be completed prior to participation (attached as PDF). Please bring these forms with you to the first day of tryouts on April 28th, DO NOT MAIL these to the Athletic Department.

4. Acceptance Letter to WMU or Fall 2017 Class schedule and GPA (if currently a WMU student)
• All portions of tryouts are CLOSED to the public; only applicants, coaching staff, and WMU athletic department staff will be permitted.
• Tryout attire should be shorts and a t-shirt (tight fitted shirts are preferred for girls). This is a judging category; thus, you should consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing. No jewelry or body piercing will be allowed.
• Co-ed Squad (8-10 females & 8-10 males)
-- Cheers football, men's & women's basketball, and volleyball
• All-Girl Squad (16-20 females)
-- Cheers football, men's & women's basketball, and volleyball
About tryout weekend:
• All tryout material will be taught April 28th and April 29th. A first cut may be made after each day.
• Final day of tryouts. Participants will be given a 45-minute warm-up period. Final Tryouts will immediately follow the warm-up session. Final scoring will be based on: partner stunting, tumbling, cheer, fight song, interview, appearance, and general conditioning test.
