"We had a little bit of a slow start tonight but not surprising because of exam week," added Clipfell. "Credit Kentucky State, I thought they came out and delivered a couple blows to start off the game. LaTondra was a big spark for us off the bench and turned the enthusiasm up on our team and everyone followed suit."
It was a total team effort for the Broncos as 12 players that found the court scored and for the second consecutive game, three players scored in double figures against the Thorobrettes.
Junior
Breanna Mobley continued her dominate play this season, posting her second straight double-double and fifth of the season with the game-high 18 points along with 10 rebounds. Redshirt junior
Jasmyn Walker added 12 points for WMU while powering down six rebounds.
"Breanna was a machine as always tonight," noted Clipfell. "Recording a double-double is like clockwork for her and she makes it look easy. All the credit goes to her hard work."
Sophomore
Emma VanZanten arguably had her best game of her young career just missing out on a double-double with a career-high 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds to go along with a career-high three blocks.
WMU shot a season-high 85.7 percent (24-of-28) from the charity strip while going 39.4 percent from the floor.
Despite trailing in the first quarter by four, the Broncos were sparked by senior
LaTondra Brooks' four points and junior
Deja Wimby's three steals as WMU took a five-point advantage at the end of the first ten minutes. The Brown and Gold used a 19-0 run in the following stanza and wouldn't look back. Prior to the break, Mobley led all players with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The second half was much of the same while Western Michigan allowed a season-low six points in the fourth en route to a 35-point victory.
Defensively WMU recorded a season-high 20 steals highlighted by Wimby's seven, which tied her career-high. The Broncos forced Kentucky State to turn the ball over 28 times on the night which led to a whopping 40 points. The Brown & Gold were dominate on the glass in front of their home crowd, outrebounding their opponents 50-34 with a season-high 22 from the offensive end.
