Mobley and Hill Record Double-Doubles in WMU's First Win of the Season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Backed by double-doubles from junior Breanna Mobley and redshirt senior Marley Hill, the Western Michigan women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon after defeating Western Athletic powerhouse New Mexico State, 64-55.

"I am very happy we came back with a win today and that might be Marley Hills best game I've seen since she's been here," commented WMU head coach Shane Clipfell. "I love the fact that we were able to take care of the ball in both games this weekend but we have to get better at rebounding and better from behind the arc on the offensive side. Beyond that we accomplished what we wanted to and we are coming home a better team than when we left on Thursday."

The Broncos, who were coming off their first season opener loss under Clipfell, were led by Hill's third career double-double off a game-high 20 points, career-high 12 rebounds and a block. Mobley notched her 20th career double-double and first during the young season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Redshirt junior Jasmyn Walker added eight points for the Broncos while recording career-highs in rebounds (nine) and assists (four). In the back court, guards Deja Wimby and Jordan Walker each scored seven, respectively.

After one, Western Michigan led 18-15 as Jordan Walker recorded six of her seven points. Despite shooting 26.7 percent from the field as a team in the second, Sophomore Emma VanZanten sparked the balanced offense hitting her first career three from the top of the arc as the Broncos took the 31-27 lead into half.

The Aggies, who have been crowned WAC Tournament Champions for three-straight seasons, held the Broncos to just two points in the final 3:04 in the third to even the score at the end of three. However, Hill took over the game from there, scoring 11 of her 20 points in the final quarter. The Broncos also played stiff defense holding NMSU to just one field goal in approximately seven minutes, as WMU picked up its first win of the season.

The box score read fairly even after the day as the Broncos went 24-for-68 from the field, good for 35.3 percent. WMU forced the Aggies to 10 turnovers and grabbed 50 total rebounds. As a team, the Broncos added 12 assists led by Jasmyn Walker's game-high, four.

The Broncos continue their six-game road trip, traveling to Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and Iowa on Sunday, Nov. 19. Concluding the away stand, WMU will participate in the Florida Gulf Coast Showcase from Nov. 24-26.
