Volleyball Falls at Ball State, 3-1

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan volleyball team suffered its first loss in Mid-American Conference play on the season, falling to Ball State 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 15-25, 17-25) on the road on Friday night.

Sydney Lemay was the lone Bronco to reach double-digit kills as the team was held to a .079 hitting percentage. WMU ended up with 28 attack errors on the night.

Ball State never trailed in the first set. After opening up to a 5-2 lead the Broncos were able to battle back and tie it up at 5-5 but didn't get over the hump. The Cardinals were able to maintain a lead and stretched it out to 22-16 late on in the set before finishing it off 25-20.

BSU got out to an early lead in the second set but an attack error on the Cardinals made it 3-3 and the Broncos took over from there, going on a 12-4 run to open up the set. From there the Broncos cruised to the set win, 25-17. Olivia Kofie, Quiana Ware and LeMay each had four kills in the set.

The final two sets played out in similar fashions for Ball State. The Cardinals took an early lead in both and held off any WMU comeback attempts to win 25-15 and 25-17.

It's a quick turnaround now for the Broncos, who travel to Toledo for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday.
