Women's Soccer Falls to Ball State, 1-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team suffered its second loss in Mid-American Conference play this season, falling to Ball State 1-0 at the WMU Soccer Complex on Thursday afternoon.

The lone goal came in the 46th minute, just after start of the second half. Allison Abbe took the ball down the left flank and crossed it into the box. Sam Kambol volleyed it into the net for her fourth goal of the season, to give BSU the 1-0 lead.

The Broncos (7-4-1, 2-2-1 MAC) outshot the Cardinals 13-12 overall but Ball State had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. The first half opened with WMU dictating the possession and two early chances came from just outside the box by Emma Kahn and Alyssa Burke. Ball State sat back on the counter attack and Stephanie Heber made four big saves in the first half to keep the score 0-0.

Western Michigan made a late charge after conceding the opening goal but weren't able to get the equalizer.

"The first half was an even game," said head coach Lauren Sinacola" I thought we created some quality chances, but lacked the ability to capitalize. Ball state found an early goal in the second that made us chase the rest of the game.  Again, we continued to create opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. That's been our story thus far, it's time to change it."

WMU heads out on the road to Miami on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start. The Broncos return next weekend, hosting Ohio on Friday at 4 p.m. and then hosting Kent State on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
