Broncos Cruise to 106-51 Win over Lourdes in Exhibition Play

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  Three Broncos scored in double figures as the Western Michigan men's basketball team cruised to a 106-51 victory over Lourdes on Sunday afternoon inside University Arena.

Junior Josh Davis led the Broncos with a game-high 29 points, going 10-of-12 from the floor while knocking down four three-pointers. Davis also registered four steals in 16 minutes of play. Fellow junior Seth Dugan added 17 points along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

In the backcourt, junior Bryce Moore notched double digits with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting while Preseason All-MAC West selection Thomas Wilder scored seven points and had a game-high six steals.

As a team, WMU shot 57.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line. The Broncos forced Lourdes to commit 34 turnovers and collected 23 steals on the afternoon.

WMU will host neighbor Kalamazoo College in their final exhibition game, Saturday Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. inside University Arena. WMU begins the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 11, hosting Siena Heights at 2:00 p.m.

It was a quick start for the Brown and Gold as the Broncos raced out to a 23-4 lead just seven minutes into the game. The quick start was thanks in large part to an 18-0 run by WMU with eight of the 18 points coming off of the fast break. After leading by 23, the Broncos missed their next seven shots before an 8-0 run extended their lead to 39-12 with five minutes left to play in the first.

WMU extended their lead to 49-18 late in the first half with a 6-0 run as Davis scored four of the six points. The Broncos headed to the locker room with a 51-21 lead, shooting 51.4 percent from the field and knocking down four threes.

In the second half, Western Michigan extended their lead to 40 as the Broncos went 9-of-11 from the field and connected on six straight field goal attempts. With three minutes left to play, WMU embarked on a 7-0 run to go over the century mark as freshman Kyle McDermed hit two free-throws to give WMU a 100-45 lead.

Down the stretch, the WMU defense limited Lourdes to just 1-of-8 shooting from the field en route to the 116-51 victory.
